This weekend I have been painting my design for this years Christmas card. Having not painted for two years I only wanted to paint something quick but effective. Painting a titanium white circle in the middle then using a lemon yellow, cerulean blue and crimson red in circles around the moon I created the moon and night sky. More red at the bottom and more of a purple at the top with a green glow around the moon. I didn’t make any real decision on this layout, it’s just what felt right while I painted. I’ve been away from art for about a year after totally renovating a my new home. My wife and I bought a new home, sold our old one and were about to move in when we realised there was a lot of work to be done on the house. As we did more work, more work needed done. We stripped the house back to brick redone all the plumbing, electrical, knocked down walls rebuilt walls, fitted a loft conversion, move the bathroom, fitted new kitchen and bathroom, plastered every wall all new furniture and carpets. For Christmas 2015 my wife bought me a very large 152cm x 122cm canvas to paint on. My decision to make was what to paint on my new prized possession. I had been to Harry Potter World in the summer and a picture of the large Hogwarts model from a near perfect angle for the painting. So I started sketching on the large canvas on a scale that I had never before. The building itself was easy as I had the photo I’d taken and felt I’d gotten the scale and range correct.
